Characters: Mystifying

So Simon and Lily are sitting in a dance club, enjoying a Halloween party, bothering hardly anybody, and all of a sudden... there's Stefan.

Simon, Lily and Stefan are, respectively, the magician and the succubus from Hell to Pay and the male magician from A Matter of Trust. In other words, they're fictional characters I created. They exist only in my mind, do only what I imagine they will do. And yet...

I had no idea Stefan was in that dance club until Lily noticed him standing there. Had no idea that was going to happen. Had no idea what was going to happen next. Just... there he was.

Characters. They're like that.

In any event, in case anybody wondered, this demonstrates that yes, all my books take place in the same universe. There are inconsistencies in how some things are described - for instance Stefan has a different view of magic than Simon who has a different view of demons than Lily: meanwhile the Maestro knows nothing about either magic or demons. But remember: the author is omniscient (or at least omnipotent which enables retrograde omniscience.) The characters are not. None of them knows everything about the DoC universe and all of them know things about it that aren't necessarily so. ;)

I think you'll like this story. And I know that while it may be the first Dreams of Control crossover appearance, it won't be the last or the least. Stay tuned. It's going to be a wild ride.

A New Record Record

Okay, barring a wave of returns, there'll be a new Reader Reward story next month, because we've already broken our monthly sales record. And we did it at a record pace - there's still a whole week left in the month!

Thanks, everybody. Seriously. Thank you.

Why Ideas Are Not As Useful As You Might Think

Argh.

Argh, I say.

I had Hell to Pay: Halloween Dreams and What He Wants both needing attention, but ohhhhhh, no. What my subconscious really wants to work on are new stories. So in the past few days I've started a book called Today's Lucky Winner and one called The Back Door. Plus a few other ideas. But the thing is that ideas are cheap: words are expensive. I can rattle off plots one after another all day long, as can any writer or even any reasonably intelligent person. But turning the plot into tens of thousands of words which fit together well and are fun to read... that's the long part.

If I ever get to finish any of these, I promise you'll love them. They're all fun. But my brain is easily dis... ooh, shiny!

Sorry. Anyway, keep checking back. More coming. ;)

Dream a Little Dream With Me...

Our latest Reader Reward story, Dream a Little Dream, has been published to all of our e-tailer sites. It should be available very shortly. It's up on Smashwords for free right now. Here's the cover, the back-cover blurb, and a link.

Brian Cartwright has it all. Almost. His beautiful wife loves him and they have a pleasant life... but there are a few flies in the ointment.

One, Cindy gets terrible headaches that put her in bed for days at a time.

Two, even when she's not sick, Cindy's not as... enthusiastic as she could be in the bedroom.

But Brian's determined to find a way to help her... and his discovery of the many uses of hypnosis may turn out to be the solution to both problems. Before long Cindy's so relaxed her headaches don't stand a chance. And soon after that, the rest of her starts feeling even better!

It may interest readers to know that I wrote this book both as a "Reader Reward" and as sort of a fictional "how to." The "how to" in this case is, "How to introduce erotic hypnosis into a relationship." While this is a work of fiction - and Brian, the husband, is sort of sneaky about it - the book actually contains a perfectly workable example of a hypnotic induction. It also shows how one might give erotic suggestions to one's partner, along with a little commentary that tells why Brian does what he does during the induction.

Also, note that Caught In His Web is no longer a free book. Although it can take some time for the sites to catch up, the price has been raised to $0.99 supershort status. It's more than a dollar's worth of daydream, I promise!

Next up: finishing Hell to Pay: Halloween Dreams and What He Wants.

Thanks, and enjoy!

Okay, I Think That Was Cheating...

Not sure I should count December since it's a big spending month, but I am still pleased to announce that we did break our all-time sales volume record in December 2012!

So, there will be a FREE story posted this month as our "thank you" gift to the readers. Don't forget, however, that the deal is that every time a story goes out as free, a previously free story will become, um, not-free. So if you haven't downloaded all the free ones, do it now, because one will be dropping off that list as soon as the new one is ready!

With all sincerity, thank you as always for purchasing our books. You make all this possible. Enjoy!
